Measure for Measure by William Shakespeare Essay

â€Å"I am constantly coordinated by you† †Mariana â€Å"I am coordinated by you† †Isabella. Both these lines are routed to the Duke. What do they propose about ladies status in this play? What other proof would you be able to discover to help your view? Measure for Measure is a play composed by William Shakespeare in the seventeenth century which significantly presents the job of ladies. Ladies were seen as unadulterated and were not expected to be wanton, yet subject to men with hardly any choices or decisions. Shakespeare’s understanding of ladies in Measure for Measure particularly reflects society’s assessment of ladies at that point, where men had more opportunity and ought to be given more regard than ladies. The general public around then was a man centric one, where a male was a viewed as a God like figure and at last the pioneer, and beneath him was the lord and afterward the nobles. Notwithstanding, in spite of the fact that the general public gave men a bigger number of rights than ladies, Measure for Measure shows that men likewise had more duties. This is appeared through the circumstance with Claudio and Juliet, as despite the fact that they are both similarly to fault for Juliet’s pregnancy, it is Claudio confronting capital punishment. The ladies of Measure for Measure are commonly very low in the positions of significance and regard; they are not discussed with any significance. Juliet is the object of Claudio’s sexual discharge and Mariana is the tragically deceased overlooked fiancee of Angelo, who was surrendered by him when she lost her settlement in a wreck. The main lady who sort of breaks the pattern of the humble ladies is Isabella, who has the mental fortitude to confront Angelo for her purity. In the principal half she is pushed among Angelo and Claudio while she chooses what to do and will not react Angelo’s progresses, at that point in the subsequent half, she takes her requests from the Duke which shows that then again she is as yet respectful toward the Duke, adhering to the entirety of his guidelines. In Act V, Scene 1, the Duke shows his assessment of ladies when conversing with Mariana, he says: â€Å"Why, you are not much: neither one of the maids, widow nor wife†. As indicated by the Duke’s perspective, the other lady who really is free is Mistress Overdone as she acquires her own cash and can get some opportunity; at any rate she doesn’t need to remain at home cooking. The fundamental female character in Measure for Measure is Isabella; she speaks to an exceptionally unadulterated female character. This is first observed toward the beginning of the play by the way that she is preparing to turn into a cloister adherent and by the solid Christian qualities she seems to have. This is then underscored later when she is advised her brother’s life will be spared in the event that he consents to lay down with Angelo. She rejects this offer, setting her virtuousness and her Christian qualities over her own life. This shows a woman’s virtue is profoundly esteemed, while a lady being indiscriminate isn't acknowledged. Mariana is another female character in the play and she is very extraordinary to Isabella. None of these three men, Angelo, Claudio or the Duke, assume that her Choice issues her body is to be anticipated whether for desire, life or love. At the point when the duke asks Mariana to permit him a private conversation with Isabella, she answers, â€Å"I am constantly bound to you†, as though she is addressing an old companion. Also, once more, when the duke discloses to her he regards her, she answers that she knows it and has seen it as obvious, proposing a drawn out relationship. This announcement likewise shows that she is his subject. The modifier ‘bound’ implies that she is obliged to do as he wishes and furthermore constrained to do as such. She utilizes the intensifier ‘always’ to him which shows that she will consistently follow his model and will do his will in any condition. Her total trust is showed when she consents to depend her purity as the Friar inquires. In the Jacobean culture Shakespeare lived in, ladies would have consistently done as they were offered by request of men, however particularly if the request was given by a man of religion. These words show the supreme consistence that the Duke can increase through turning into a camouflage (pseudo-)monk. The Duke manhandles this strict capacity to pick up understanding into people’s spirits for his own closures. He realizes that Angelo wishes Isabella to ‘give up the treasures’ of her body and uses the two ladies to acquire control over Angelo. The equivalent applies to when Isabella says to the Duke, â€Å"I am coordinated by you†, this announcement likewise shows how ladies regarded men and how men were above in power. As referenced above, there are no autonomous ladies in Measure for Measure, this isn't odd, thinking about the setting and Shakespeare’s own time; there are whores and nuns who are allowed to control their own lives above all they appear to have no way out in any issue.

Chang depicts the life of her grandma, who was a warlord courtesan; the battles that her mom experienced as a youthful hopeful socialist, and about the difficulties, her folks experienced during the Cultural Revolution. During the Cultural Revolution, Mao’s disappointments drove Chang’s guardians into restricting the president’s strategies. They were thus focused on together with other restricting high-positioning authorities during the upheaval. The condemning of Mao by Chang’s father made Chang’s family be presented to reprisal from Mao’s supporters. This was additionally trailed by her father’s detainment, and her family had to venture out from home. This caused Chang to lose the regard she had for Mao as she composes, to the degree that when Mao passed on, she needed to shroud her head under the shoulder of another understudy to imagine that she was lamenting. Chang left to concentrate in Britain in 1978 on an administration grant, where she discovered life there intriguing to the degree that she came to adore her new nation so much, and particularly its veer culture. The story experiences the passings of her fiancã ©e sibling and her two nearest male companions during the First World War. It closes with Brittain meeting her Husband and the following marriage in 1925. Brittain was left truly depleted and sorrow striken, yet in the midst of the whole injury, a thought was planted in Brittains psyche of deifying her story in a book. The possibili ty of the book came later to be the confirmation of the adolescent, which is one of the most commended diaries of the twentieth century. The words in these diaries seem to spill out of her, a solid blend of both misfortune and rage that are fortified by knowledge and conservative convictions. As a lady, Brittain had the option to account the female encounters in the war with a natural dynamism. The artistic memorialization of world war one was a save of the male until the confirmation of the adolescent was determined. Brittain was in this way ready to offset enthusiastic reverberation with scholarly exactness. She had the option to transfer her own story that of being the little girl of the owner of a common paper production line, and afterward as a young lady in the way towards comprehending the belongings that were destroyed by war. By so doing, she had the option to spread out her political convictions. As indicated by the journals, she had the option to discover that nobody can live in segregation structure open occasions. Having experienced childhood in a preservationist white collar class family, she can compose strongly concerning her own aspirations as a methods for advancing her life and those of other ladies, in spite of the conventional thoughts by her folks that a woman’s place has a place in the home. What gives Brittain’s journals such an extraordinary impact is the refusal by Brittain to stick on to acknowledged standards that keep on reducing the spot of a lady in the general public. The journal meshes around policy driven issues into her own life that makes Brittain’s diary so interesting. This is on the grounds that any individual doesn't need to be keen on pacifism or woman's rights to comprehend Brittain’s perspective. The amazing diary, be that as it may, didn't come without encountering of individual by Brittain. In spite of the fact that she belived thaty she could never be discover any delight of being seeing someone, did in the end wed George Caltin, a logician which following a romance that was impelled by a letter. She thusly emptied out her energies into crusading against expansionism, politically-sanctioned racial segregation, and atomic multiplication. Britttain’s political activism lastingly affected her girl, in that; she drove the resistance against the intrusion of Iraq in the House of Lords in 2003. Worth Following the upset, the situation of ladies in the general public rose fundamentally with Chang’s mother being a government employee and later the spouse of an authority. Chang, hence, gives a chronicled perspective on the impact of Mao’s rule on the way of life of customary China, just as the bizarre opening of ladies in today’s world. Chang’s account is a motivating one of fearlessness, insight, love, unwaveringness, and affectability that is told in a target way without blame or allegations. In spite of the fact that Brittain is currently dead and can't observer the achievement the journals, the effects are as yet felt even today in, for example, how her book has helped in forming the awareness of present day women's activists. In a time of six years, the diaries had sold more than 120, 000 duplicates. The episode of World War II, notwithstanding, implied that Brittain’s radical way of thinking turned out to be less mainstream. It was not until the late 1970s that the Virago, the women's activist distributer reproduced Testament of Youth which was trailed by a well known TV arrangement brought Brittain’s work to a greater crowd. The book up to today remains significantly powerful 8 decades after its distribution, and keeps on rousing new ages. The book had the option to pass on the individual destruction that followed World War I, particularly from the point of view of a young lady who encountered the fierceness of war without limit. Numerous other simultan eous records delineated ladies as casualties who bore the staggering impact of world occasions, instead of as the methods for their own change. Her story is a compassionate one that gives the encounters of ladies a voice thinking about that numerous other female journalists attempted to carry their records into the spotlight. Issue as an approach to relate past Utilizing the issue as a method of relating the past is that the story is inclined to be handed-off in an emotional way that centers more around the issue than on the arrangements, and the chronicled parts of the story. By utilizing the issue approach technique to feature different previous chronicled occasions we are relied upon to gain from might be one directional, in that, the creator may just view matters that by and by hazardous to him/her. The Downfall of Antigone and Creon - Free Essay Example

Antigoners stubbornness causes the death of herself when she goes against the law of Creon, the King to bury her brother, Polynices, and readers learn that what one expects it not always the outcome. It is ordered by the gods for each person to be offered a proper burial, so Antigone asks her sister, Ismene, for helping to bury Polynices, but she denies, in fear of getting caught. Antigone is still persistent in burying her brother, despite the warnings from Ismene. Ismene is willing to keep the act a secret, but Antigone refuses, and says, Publish it To all the world! Else I shall hate you more (129). Antigone is proud of what she stands for and wants everyone to know, by the form of Ismene spreading the news. She is aware of a punishment for an act against the king, but her stubbornness does not hold her back from committing a sinful act against the King. Antigoners hatred towards Ismene, if she does not advance the news to others, shows that Antigone is not keeping her from taking a stand and proving that no one can control her actions. Once Antigone gets caught, the King asks if she confirms the accusations against her and she replies, I do admit it. I do not deny it (138). Antigone is not trying to escape her punishment. Her stubbornness motivates her to make it clear to everyone that she believes what she did was the right thing to do and nobody can stop her from thinking so. Antigoners stubbornness concealed decisions might not lead to desirable consequences Creonrs stubbornness causes the death of not only Antigone, but also his wife, Eurydice, and his son, Haemon, when he rejects the advice of Haemon and Teiresias, a prophet, and from this, one learns to not be headstrong when listening to advice. Antigone is caught for offering her brother, Polynices, a proper burial, as it is ordered by the King not to do so. Haemon, as well as the people of Thebes, do not think what Antigone did was worth being punished for. Creon reveals his stubbornness when he exclaims, The people of Thebes! Since when do I take my orders from the people of Thebes? (146). He feels offended when Haemon offers Creon the perspective of Antigoners punishment from the viewpoint of himself and the people of Thebes. In the quote, it is implied that Creon ignores and never listens to the advice of others, apart from himself. Creonrs stubbornness causes him to be self-centered and since he is the king, what he does is what he alone thinks is best because of his high level of authority. He is not only ignoring Haemon and the people of Thebes, but more importantly, disregarding the laws provided by the gods, one of which is to offer each person a proper burial. Following Creonrs exclamation, Haemon then goes on to say, Isnt that rather a childish thing to say? and Creon replies, No. I am king, and responsible only to myself (146). By calling Creon childish, Haemon suggests that Creon is immature and naive. Creonrs actions are not only childish, but the use of words are simple and his syntax is short, just as a stubborn child. He wants all the power to himself and does not let the citizens have a say in what they desire. Although Haemon encourages Creon to withdraw Antigoners punishment, he still does not listen. Later on in the play, Teiresias appears to warn Creon of future consequences if he does not release Antigone. Creonrs stubbornness is again apparent when he misjudges the intentions of the prophet Teiresias when he accuses prophets [of] seek[ing] their own advantage (Sophocles 154). Even though the foresight of prophets has never failed, Creon believes the prophecies they provide are for the favor of themselves only. He accuses Teiresias of all prophets providing false predictions in order to gain wealthier. Creon does not take into account any punishment that many follow disobeying the gods. As a result of overlooking Haemonrs suggestions and believing Teiresias prophecies are false, Haemon commits suicide when learning about Antigoners death and Eurydice, distraught at hearing of her sonrs death, also takes her own life. Creonrs stubbornness led to the death of his loved ones when did not take in the advice of Haemon and Teiresias. He did not consider the impact his decisions would have on others and therefore, it is important for readers to learn to stay open-minded and think of the bigger picture when making decisions.

Essay on Analysis of an Advertising Campaign - 2012 Words

Analysis of an Advertising Campaign We are swarmed by advertising. Companies constantly battle to compete for the sale of their product. Adverts appear in every form of media including radio; television; Internet; billboards; newspaper; flyers and magazines. The advertiser wants us to buy their product above their competitors. The basic aim of advertising is to convince the target audience that their product is the best in the field and superior to the other products of similarity. This should increase demand. Sometimes, to prove they are better than their rivals, companies actually compare statistics in adverts. This is allowed if the comparisons are factual evidence. Another tactic†¦show more content†¦The first advert in the series is set at a diving competition. The format is as follows: three competitors are taking part. The first contestant approaches and takes his dive; we perceive a side angle view. As he hits the water the angle changes to a bird’s eye view, this creates an aura of professionalism. His dive appears to be excellent and the narrator makes a positive remark. The tens ion begins to gather as the narrator gives a running commentary, also giving a sense of realism. As the Canadian contestant approaches for his dive, the same professional camera angles are used as were for the Austrian. This dive appears to be even better than the first and scores highly. The third and final British contestant is Peter Kay. As he approaches the camera angle gives a full frontal view of his physique, which looks rather unfit and inappropriate for a diver. Instead of doing a professional dive he ‘dives bombs’ into the water creating a big splash, this symbolises ‘no-nonsense’ being straight to the point and no complex moves. Then scoring maximum 10 points. What Are the Maximum and Minimum

The minimum is the smallest value in the data set. The maximum is the largest value in the data set.  Learn more about how these statistics may not be so trivial. Background A set of quantitative data has many features. One of the goals of statistics is to describe these features with meaningful values and to provide a summary of the data without listing every value of the data set.  Some of these statistics are quite basic and almost seem trivial. The maximum and minimum provide good examples of the type of descriptive statistic that is easy to marginalize. Despite these two numbers being extremely easy to determine, they make appearances in the calculation of other descriptive statistics.  As we have seen, the definitions of both of these statistics are very intuitive.   The Minimum We start by looking more closely at the statistics known as the minimum. This number is the data value that is less than or equal to all other values in our set of data. If we were to order all of our data in ascending order, then the minimum would be the first number in our list. Although the minimum value could be repeated in our data set, by definition this is a unique number. There cannot be two minima because one of these values must be less than the other. The Maximum Now we turn to the maximum. This number is the data value that is greater than or equal to all other values in our set of data. If we were to order all of our data in ascending order, then the maximum would be the last number listed. The maximum is a unique number for a given set of data. This number can be repeated, but there is only one maximum for a data set. There cannot be two maxima because one of these values would be greater than the other. Example The following is an example data set: 23, 2, 4, 10, 19, 15, 21, 41, 3, 24, 1, 20, 19, 15, 22, 11, 4 We order the values in ascending order and see that 1 is the smallest of those in the list. This means that 1 is the minimum of the data set. We also see that 41 is greater than all of the other values in the list.  This means that 41 is the maximum of the data set. Uses of the Maximum and Minimum Beyond giving us some very basic information about a data set, the maximum and minimum show up in the calculations for other summary statistics.   Both of these two numbers are used to calculate the range, which is simply the difference of the maximum and minimum.   The maximum and minimum also make an appearance alongside the first, second, and third quartiles in the composition of values comprising the five number summary for a data set. The minimum is the first number listed as it is the lowest, and the maximum is the last number listed because it is the highest.  Due to this connection with the five number summary, the maximum and minimum both appear on a box and whisker diagram. Limitations of the Maximum and Minimum The maximum and minimum are very sensitive to outliers. This is for the simple reason that if any value is added to a data set that is less than the minimum, then the minimum changes and it is this new value.  In a similar way, if any value that exceeds the maximum is included in a data set, then the maximum will change. For example, suppose that the value of 100 is added to the data set that we examined above. This would affect the maximum, and it would change from 41 to 100. Many times the maximum or minimum are outliers of our data set. To determine if they indeed are outliers, we can use the interquartile range rule.

Hundreds of ears later there still lives the same concept of black people putting on shows that embarrass the race but it makes them money and gives them fame.In hip hop it is seen often with rappers. Many rap artist are the target when comparing to Minstrel shows. This is because some talk ignorantly or with slang, dress like thugs or pimps and act as if they dont care about life. This lifestyle is closely related to the minstrel shows because its done for money and fame not for entertainment or unity. Author Ken Budget wrote in his article Minstrel shows that The setting has changed from idyllic plantation to the mean streets of urban America, the process remains the same This quote basically states that the culture hasnt really improved but it Just relocated. The events and topics discussed are still relevant today in hip hop. Dancing is still huge part of the culture and it contributes to its overall meaning. The African drum compared to the beats of hip hop is still very relevant because the sounds of the African drum are still used to this very day. Hip hop is greatly influenced by African dance and music. Also, Minstrel shows influence hip hop whether it is noticed or not here is still an underlying theme that continues to show face.

My Sweet Grandma See You Later Alligator Essay Example For Students

My Sweet Grandma See You Later Alligator Essay I was born on May 8th, 1997, and for the first six years of my life, I was a normal, happy little girl. In 2002, my parents divorced and reunited, and then when I was eight, they divorced again. Their marriage is now over. I spent most every day of my childhood with my grandparents and great grandmother because my parents worked so much. My grandma was my great grandmother, and she was the most amazing person in the world to me and the dear memories I have of my years with her will last my lifetime. Whenever I would go to school or leave the house for one reason or another, she would say, â€Å"See ya later alligator,† and I would respond, â€Å"In a while Crocodile. † It was our a special way of saying goodbye to each other. Sadly, this amazing, sweet and caring woman passed away in 2008, leaving a void in my heart that will never be filled. How could I ever forget her selfless and determined love for me? As a child, I always loved school and learning kind of always came naturally to me. There was a group that would come to our school every year called The Missoula Children’s Theatre and I participated in that from 1st grade until Junior High when the group stopped coming to our area. Acting and performing has since then been one of my favorite things and I’ve been in several productions since. In 5th grade, I joined band and I have been a member playing the clarinet for eight years. Junior high went by as normal as it can with the same drama just a different day and I stopped trying in school and my grades slipped. In the 9th and 10th grade I did damage control and got myself back where I once was. Mrs. Anderson, drama club sponsor at the time, introduced me to a show called Glee and I have been watched it since 2010. She also introduced me to Broadway musicals and made me fall in love with New York City. On June 3rd, 2013, Halley Gladewell was in a tragic car accident and died. She was my classmate and close friend. The day of her funeral my friends and I all got what we really needed and that was closure. On the way home from the funeral we all decided she would want nothing more than for us to live in her memory. Cornerstone Full Gospel Church has been my church since I was six weeks old and I am very strong in my faith. I started singing at my church at around eight and have been on the praise team for five years. During my 11th grade year, I struggled academically. Science has always been something that I have had more of a struggle with. Chemistry was the hardest one, no matter how much I studied I was still making extremely low grades and it was getting out of hand. A YouTube crash course actually was what showed me a way to understand and my grades gradually got better for the last half of the year. As my little grandma saying would go â€Å"see ya later alligator† that is how I plan to make my senior year. My life so far has only been the beginning and unfortunately life is a series of goodbyes. The list of places I want to go is endless. But at this moment, I dont feel quite ready to leave; to walk out the door for good. I think Im missing the gentle support my grandma gave me when she was alive. Sometimes, when reality hits and I know its time for me to step out and experience the world, I daydream, imagining that the sweet old lady is here today, sending me lovingly out the door and on my way into the world See you later, Alligator. I love you. In a while Crocodile. And I love you, Grandma.

Lord Of The Flies By William Golding Essays (1502 words)

Lord Of The Flies By William Golding This was the most interesting book I have ever read. It is sort of a cross between Alive and Hatchet. Because the book is extremely addictive and written so superbly, it did not take long for me to get into and finish it. The characters were probably the most interesting element in Lord of the Flies. All British and male, the young boys in this story portray the savagery and sadistic nature to which all but a few succumb. The other boys are the only symbol of sanity on the island. There is also a very interesting conflict between Ralph and Jack. In essence, this is the eternal struggle between good and evil. The ending of the novel concludes in a gut-wrenching showdown between the two. The only thing I disliked about this book is that sometimes Golding's writing style was a little hard to follow. The main problem was that the boy's British accents made it difficult to understand what they meant. This problem appeared in few spots, however, and for the most part the book was easy to read. I think that males would enjoy this book mainly because of the fact that all the characters were boys. It also appeals to a person with good literary insight who can understand Golding's symbolism. This book also made a very good movie which portrays the story well. I did have a favorite character in this book. His name is Simon. Simon is peculiar in that he likes to be alone and take long walks into the jungle while most of the other boys play. He also discovers the beast that every one on the island fears. Ultimately, he discovers the true source of evil, the Lord of the Flies, and is later betrayed by his friends. Being an enthusiastic and long time book reader, I think Lord of the Flies is a great book. It is very intriguing and seems to place a terrible spell over the reader who gets lured into this arousing adventure. I spent four days reading this book and only put it down during meals. Lord of the Flies kept my interest with very little slow moving dialogue and lots of vivid description. For me this book ranks right up there with Clockwork Orange and The Last Herald Mage. All of these books have incredible story lines with non-stop adventure. They also all seem to address some of the controversial subjects facing our society today. The thing I probably liked the most about Lord of the Flies was the theme of the story. This topic was very intriguing. It dealt with the many flaws and desires of human nature, and how devastating these factors can be to a culture with no directions or order to follow. I enjoyed how the story showed that even the youngest and most innocent of humans strive for power over everything and will stop at nothing until he achieves that power. The theme shows the greed that has been bred into all humans. There was very little I disliked about this book. The mood was a little dark and depressing but that just added to the setting. Probably the one thing that could have been improved upon was William Golding's writing style. He tended to skip around sometimes and use difficult dialect and terms that can confuse the reader, but this happened rarely. I think all serious readers would like this book. Probably the people who could enjoy this book the most would be the faithful followers of Science Fiction and Adventure novels who might enjoy the stranger aspects of life. I also think readers who are interested in human behavior would relish this book because of the way it portrays the many sides of human nature, values, and morals. I will probably read this book again. It was such a good novel it might possibly end up in my personal library. Lord of the Flies was also made into a great movie that captured the best aspects of the book. The best lesson I learned from Lord of the Flies is that people can not let one thing control their whole life. They can not let greed control their every action and thought so that it corrupts them into acting on an evil purpose. Lord of the Flies was a great novel and I know when ever I think about this book, the scene I see is one of a young boy talking to a bloody

Frederick Douglasss Speeches essays

Frederick Douglass's Speeches essays Frederick Douglass tried to evoke a desire for Liberation amongst the African-American people in his writings and oratory. To many people, Douglass appeared to be the black Moses, leading his people to freedom not only physically, but mentally and getting there by non-violent means. Douglass believed that if he could successfully show that blacks were in fact equal to whites, he thought that in turn everyone would recognize this and put an end to slavery. Frederick Douglass has emerged as the representative black male writer of his time period. As is well known, Douglass, the son of a slave woman and a white slave master, spent the first part of his life as a slave in Maryland, escaping to New Bedford, Massachusetts in 1838 (Levine 3).Fearing fugitive slave hunters, Douglass sailed to the British Isles, and when he returned in 1847, he established the North Star, thus beginning a sixteen-year career as an editor and publisher of three different antislavery newspapers. In the middle of this journalistic career, he printed an expanded version of his autobiography, My Bondage and My Freedom (1855), a text that articulated some of the key tenets of his newspapers temperance and the importance of pursuing black elevation in the United States. As a slave himself, Douglass in his person embodies the possibilities of regeneration. In My Bondage and My Freedom, Douglass signals his entry into revolutionary tradition. And thus he presents himself in his autobiography as a national representative, fighting not only for its moral and political principles but for the very civilization that served as a foundation for the development of those principles. In this work, Douglass implying that blacks, by following Douglasss representative example, can overcome what Douglass refers to as the ten thousand discouragements ... which best their existence, in this country (Holland 58) he nonetheless ...

Core Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Core - Essay Example Hence the sincere political beliefs of the Americans in neutrality were overridden by the compulsions of the economy. It was a time when the politicians spoke of democracy and prosperity. This prosperity was visible in the growing incomes and higher living standards of people in Europe and England as well as the US. The phenomenon arose from the wealth generated mainly from the nations of Asia and Africa and at their cost. Hence there was also a conflict brewing between the haves and the have nots. The notion of uniting the exploiter and the exploited under the guise of a united democratic nation provided a safety valve to douse the fires of class conflict. Capitalism needed to create an artificial unity between the rich and poor in order to put an end to class conflict and war and the unity necessary to fight off the aggressor provided this. The American Dream refers to the ideals of freedom, equality and opportunity available to every American. It also refers to the personal happiness and material comfort sought by individuals in the US. This dream seems to have been seriously impacted by the laws passed during WWI. The espionage act seriously restricted freedom of speech and the draft law is against personal freedom of choice. During and after the war there was a conscious effort to repress socialism that had begun to take root. Although the espionage act was meant to apply only during war, it has been in force for a long time as America has consistently been at war since the Korean war of 1950. The American dream refers to the opportunity the American people had to live their lives in happiness through the route of hard work, and the opportunities to discover their strengths and find success as a result of the choices they made in life. Laws like the draft law that impacted the right to freedom of choice and the espionage act that clamped down on freedom of speech that was part of the American Dream was

Annotated Bibliography Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 3

Annotated Bibliography - Assignment Example Yet, in a world that is increasingly complex and financially segmented, the power of relationship banking and lending to continue to define the future is increasingly limited. Another wrinkle that the authors indicate is the fact that the loan officer becomes nothing more than a receptacle of â€Å"soft† information specific to certain individuals and based upon existing relationships and past choices that have been made. In such a manner, the researchers point to the fact that this not only limits the degree and extent to which promotion and business development can take place, it constrains the organizational development of the banking institution. Nevertheless, the system, as described, helps to create a more dynamic entity that is able to react to market changes better than a faceless bank that is not attuned to the needs of the individual investor or borrower. This particular article, although somewhat old, focuses on the effects of bank mergers and acquisitions; specifically focusing on what the authors refer to as the static effect. Within this level of inquiry, the analysis seeks to divorce related issues from bank mergers and acquisitions by focusing on the antecedent institutions and refocusing the analysis on the similar and differential realities that are exhibited post-merger or acquisition. Similarly, the analysis provides a heavy analytical and quantitative measurement of these determinants in the hopes of pin-pointing the key differentials that are exhibited by firms at varying stages of the process. In order to counter for some of the data that was represented, the article also goes on to discuss the ways in which offsets to these factors may be recognized; essentially indicating that synergy and other business concepts can be applied as a means of understanding the oftentimes difficult process of two distinct entities coming to be one. The article

Transition of the Bulgarian Economy: 1990-1997 :: Essays Papers

Transition of the Bulgarian Economy: 1990-1997 The immense political and economic changes in Central and Eastern Europe have created a variety of unique transition economies. Each country controlling its own development without fully understanding the implications of the monetary and fiscal macroeconomic policies it yields. Bulgaria in particular has had mixed results. A 1992 OECD Economic Assessment of Bulgaria described â€Å"shock therapeitic† reform programs that included the abolition of central planning, the liberalization of most prices, and opening more markets to foreign trade. While the survey concluded that â€Å"much has been achieved in extremely difficult circumstances,† by 1997, economic stability had not been realized. Since 1989, several governments have presided, the banking system has virtually collapsed, GDP has significantly declined along with the lev, inflation is rampant, and economic policies fail to generate confidence. However, Bulgaria’s economic performance is decidedly â€Å"middle of the road† when compared to other transitioning economies. Declines in output and average real income are much greater and unemployment and inflation much higher than the Visegrad group and Baltic Republics though often better than Ukraine, Belarus, and the Russian Republics. Many of Bulgaria’s current economic problems can be traced to economic conditions at the start of its transition. Heavy reliance on CMEA markets devastated the country , more so than any other country. Compared to GDP, over 60% of its imports and exports were orientated to the CMEA market. COMECON’s collapsed devastated Bulgaria, causing large initial declines in GDP and increases in unemployment. This event necessitated the complete restructuring of the modes of production. The complete upheaval of the Bulgarian economy forced a suspension of payments to foreign debts making it practically impossible to attract foreign/western investment to restructure the economy. Current economic instability is due to the lack of decisive economic policy from the seven successive governments following the fall of Todor Zhivkiv the former Communist Party leader in 1989. While each succeeding government has remained committed to economic transition, their policies have lacked cohesion over important controversies such as privatization, subsidies, co-operation with IFIs, and foreign investment. The result of the different policies have resulted in much change but little progress with measures dealing with â€Å"soft budget† enterprises and banks, privitisation of state assets, and attraction of foreign investment. Ripples from the discontinuity of Bulgarian economic policy are evident in the rapidly accumulating domestic debt, payment arrears, and the continual refinancing of inefficiently run commercial banks.
